I had to read that single paragraph five times as my mind went trailing off to think about cinnamon groves then cumin fields then salt flats then pepper fields then paprika bushes — so many pictures flashing through my mind. And your recipe is quite intriguing.

gretchen – That’s just awesome, that you caught the reference so quickly.

Kiarrith – Ouch! That would drive me crazy. I actually have to leave my oven door open to keep the temperature low enough to dry fruit out, in my current apartment.

Lydia – Thank you!

mr.ed – I don’t really like hachiya persimmons, I’ve learned. They really need to be firm ripe fuyus for me to be happy.

Dana – Thank you!

And I’ve had a similar forbidden rice dessert before, and it was scrumptious.

From the final color it appears to be the same kind as this. My experience with persimmons has been variable. They can be quite puckery if eaten before fully ripening.

The color combination in the photo here is stunning!

Now just gotta get my oven to stop doing the ‘off or 500 degrees’ thing….those dried persimmons look amazing!

The color combination is particularly intriguing. The loneliness of the Basilisk is very sad. Will he ever go back to his little courtyard and eat some of the delicious rice his friend made? I like happy endings, therefore I hope so. I have to admit I am not familiar with the books you mention, but now I am curious. Thanks for submitting your post to our event.
