Shawnda - Thanks!

Brilynn - That's tragic! ...when are you coming to visit me?

Julie - If you want fish chowder, I really strongly suggest you pick up the Jasper White book and look through all the different chowder recipes he has. They're amazing. You'll end up with some very different and very wonderful fish chowder that way, I'm sure.

Yvo - I've actually never liked oysters cooked (waste of a perfectly good oyster), until this chowder. So, yes, try it out!

Ellie - Their texture is actually much nicer than, say, raw clams (which I think are too chewy, usually). At least to my palate. And I grew up eating raw clams with my Dad over by Sheepshead Bay. Oysters are just so wonderfully smooth.

Susan - That's a hell of a compliment! Thank you! I promise I'll try to post more non-meaty dessert recipes soon, in any case.

I have to tell you, that despite being a happy vegetarian, your photos consistently tempt me (and just the thought of oysters make me shudder!) Fantastic photo!

I have a confession to make...I've never tried oysters, never having given them a chance after being told that all sorts of horrible stories about their texture! If I were going to try them I think I'd want it to be in this chowder - it looks delightful and sounds pretty good to my tum!

Yum, that looks great... I just started eating raw oysters after a few tries years ago and not liking them. (I like them now.) Not sure how I'll like them cooked (I didn't like them cooked years ago, either), but how gorgeous it looks and your wonderful description, I may just give this a go ;)

My partner is not an oyster eater, although I myself would love this -- and I could also probably please my elderly dad with this one, too. But I was thinking that I might just adapt it with a flaky white fish, added in chunks toward the end, since leeks and cream and bacon and potatoes are some of my favorite ingredients on this gentle earth...
