my grandmother was from tarpa. emily simons. she married my grandfather ignatius cheke (cseke) and they came to america in the 1903 or somewhere around that time.
i loved looking at the pictures. my family grew grapes in pennsylvania and the pictures reminded me of my childhood and eating the grapes off the vine. thank you so sharing.

Christine, Zsofi - Thank you!

Lisa - I really want to, though honestly, I would prefer to find pig-butchering lessons here in NY. Wouldn't that be fun?

Laura - I don't know, really. He didnt speak any English and couldn't tell us what they were. They were tasty, though.

What a wonderful story and such gorgeous photos. I love how you weaved stories of the vines into stories of your family. So much life, love and history!

You should definitely take him up on his pig-butchering lessons.
